What Is Digital Marketing.

Digital Marketing is the Race to be First

The term “Digital Marketing” relates to the business process of targeted, measurable, and interactive marketing of your products and services, using digital technologies to reach and convert leads into customers and retain them.

Digital Marketing has key objectives

of promoting brands, building customer engagement and increase sales through various digital marketing techniques. By choosing the right selection of services, products and brand marketing tactics, all of which predominantly utilise the internet as its core delivery mechanism, including mobile telecoms.

The fundamental concept in digital marketing is based on the inbound marketing approach or generally it’s called customer centric approach. It also extends to non-Internet channels that provide digital media, such as mobile phones (SMS and MMS).

Digital Marketing History.

The term ‘digital marketing’ was first used in the 1990s. In the 2000s and the 2010s, digital marketing became more sophisticated as an effective way to create a relationship with the consumer that has depth and relevance. While the term ‘digital marketing’ may not have been used until the 1990s, digital marketing itself has roots to the mid-1980s.

The rapid evolution of digital media has created new opportunities and avenues for advertising and marketing. Fuelled by the proliferation of devices to access digital media, this has led to the exponential growth of digital advertising.

In 2012 and 2013 statistics showed digital marketing remained a growing field.

Digital media growth is estimated at 4.5 trillion online ads served annually with digital media spend at 48% growth in 2010. An increasing portion of advertising stems from businesses employing Online Behavioural Advertising (OBA) to tailor advertising for Internet users.

Digital marketing is often referred to as ‘online marketing‘, ‘internet marketing‘ or ‘web marketing‘. The term ‘digital marketing’ has grown in popularity over time, particularly in certain countries. In the USA ‘online marketing’ is still prevalent.

In the UK and worldwide, ‘digital marketing’ has become the most common term, especially after the year 2013.

Print Design Services

Print Design Marketing

An integral part of a website is the
graphic design, the “look and feel” of each page.  It is important that all items produced by a company have the same look and feel, and website designs are therefore usually based on the company logo and any items already produced, such as stationery or brochures.

If you don’t already have a logo or company identity, or want to refresh or change the one you have, then we can help.

We can produce new logos and stationery that help you stand out from the crowd, creating the right impression.  We can produce stationery and leaflets/brochures as well as websites, and we can even sign write your company vehicle or premises.

Design Case Study

Mark Jennings Freight Services is a specialist in express light haulage of boxes.  The company wanted a new look and briefed us to produce a new company identity that was modern and fresh and gave the impression of a professional organisation, not “a man and a van”.

We deliberately kept the design simple to keep it “clean” looking and make it instantly recognisable, particularly on a moving vehicle.  The blue box helps the customer to associate the company with the haulage of boxes, and the inclusion of the name “Mark” within it gives scope for future marketing campaigns, for example “marked up for shipment”, “a mark of excellence” etc.

Google Evolving

Over recent years Google have evolved and added new services to increase its ability to serve the internet user population. Services like Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, Checkout, Documents (now renamed as Drive – which gives cloud based storage).

Google Services

All of these services have been growing in complexity and the ability to enhance your search and internet experience.

This growing ability to return results faster, more accurately and more intelligently,

has come about through a rolling update program of development.

Some of these changes have been given a name (like Panda, Penguin 1 and 2) and some changes publicised. These updates have been quietly changing how Google reads and understands what your website is about.

Google Grows

This means that when you ask the Librarian which book would be suitable they have a lot more sources from which to index the search results from. This means the librarian is more than a bookworm.

The number of Signals Google is checking may not have increased but the ability to connect these signals together has grown. Google still keep the number of signals and what these are a closely guarded secret, to protect their ability to serve internet users.

Google has stated that it is now using more Social Networking Signals and Freshness Content Signals.

All of this means that keeping relevant fresh content on your website has become more important, if you want to be in the Librarians List of Top 10 Books, you have to work a bit harder.

Keeping Pace:

The Inbound Marketing or SEO (Search Engine Optimization) industry has been monitoring and keeping pace with the changes of how the internet is evolving and how best to adapt to these changes.

It is now at a stage were the focus and the nature of what you put on your website is influencing Google’s Search Engine Results Pages (SERP’s)

You may know this as “the First page of Google”.Google Librarian

These results are not only website listings but information from the other services like MAPS, Social Networks, YouTube, Checkout, Image searches.

The competition to be in the Librarian’s Top 10 Listings has increased and the effort greater.

If you want your website to be in the first place of the list the Librarian returns,

you need to increase your understanding of how these changes affect your business.

As with all advertising your message needs to be heard.

If you want to know more about how Google is changing here is a list of Google changes.

If you want your website to keep pace with these changes give Us a Call to work out how best to do this.

Google The Worlds Librarian

To understand how the Google Search Engine works, you can consider an analogy of a library. where the internet is the Library and the books are website pages of information.

The Librarian can be seen as a search engine, Google being the largest and most used, at present.
Google Books

There are a lot of books and you don’t have all the time in the world to read every book to find out which book has information about a given subject.

If you ask the Librarian they can summarise which books have the information you are asking for.

This would be a list of books. To make this more useful the Librarian would list them in order of relevance to your enquiry.

In order to make this process a great experience Google work hard at giving you a speedy and relevant response. To make this work Google has to work out how to collect the information about the website pages and index them so it can respond quickly to your enquiry.

It also has to understand your enquiry, as in what did you ask for.
Google Librarian

Now Google has been working on this for a long time, ever since it started the search engine service. Over that time it has improved the indexing process and the understanding your enquiry task.

During this time Google has had to overcome being misled by websites, which have tried to represent themselves as something else, and so be placed in a list not relevant to your enquiry. An example of this in the early days of the internet was porn websites.

They pretended to be websites about another subjects.

To overcome these kinds of misleading tactics Google started looking for other Signals as to what the content on that website is about.

The Signals which Google look for are kept a secret to avoid anybody getting round these safe guards. It is now assumed that Google are using over 200 signals for every website page. These will be looking at the On Page Content and Off Page indicators

(What other known and trusted websites are saying about that website).

If you want to know more about how Google is changing here is a list of Google changes.

If you want your website to keep pace with these changes give Us a Call to work out how best to do this.

Good Web Design,Artistic Master Piece,Technical Document, Your Business Message.

Bespoke Web Design Manchester

Designing a website is a balancing act between producing an artistic master piece, a good technical document, and telling your business massage to sell the world you ideas.

Artistic Master Piece,

Is the element that attracts people to look closer, with colour, shape and form. This gives the page a feel for what they are looking for. This is important from a user point of view, because if you choose a colour scheme not associated with your business type, then people may not engage with your website.

A Good Technical Document,

Give’s the pages the right format to deliver the messages quickly, clearly and in a manor that users can understand the content and the context of the page and its subject. It is also important to make it easy to navigate to the correct place on your website to easily find more information.

The balancing act goes further, to make the website accessible to search engine so that they can tell users were to find your business website. You have to give the right kind of signals and accompanying information for them to categories you correctly and then add you to their search indexes.

Also with the proliferation of mobile devices the design now has to scale to differing screen sizes and still function well.

Your Business Message,

Once you have chosen your artistic intent and worked out the technical aspects you want to achieve. You have to tell your story to your business audience.

You have to talk to them with the right kind of language, to convey that you are the right business for them to trust. Giving the user the right signals enables them to start using your business or for them to continue using your products and services.

These three elements work together to make up a good website design.

Get one out of balance and your website will under perform.
